What I do

Welcome to my new site.

I’m a cartoonist and have been for many years. I have worked for a wide range of clients but in more recent times I have embarked on what might be called “all my own work”.This is a bit of a misnomer, as you will see from the following paragraph, but my meaning is that there is no art director or designer involvement. That aside, if you are looking for someone to help out with a project then get in touch, I do like working with others.

My most recent work is a celebration of the work of a cartoonist called Pont who’s real name was Graham Laidler and was very popular in the 1930s. Pont, as he called himeself, specialised in drawings about “The British Character”. I have revisited the subject with a series of drawings, some are now available as prints from this site.To take a look at them just click here: The British

I have also been doing a series of drawings on what I call ” Apt Names”. These too are now appearing on this site and some of them are also available as prints.

Benjamin Dover and Valerie Upchious

I had an exhibition of some of these works at The Garden’s Gallery, in Cheltenham from Wednesday 16th to Tuesday 22nd August when many originals were for sale. If you missed it not to worry, I do hope to exhibit again soon, and in the meantime,  there are many prints of the drawings available from this site.

I can also be found here: Blog  I’ll be fulminating or celebrating depending on the prevailing mood of the day, and possibly the weather.

If it’s raining I’ll be drawing. Showers and damp: probably faffing with one of my website projects like today. Dry and sunny, then I may be in the garden looking for the perfect way to grow carrots.
